Itinerary

Day 1: Meet in St.George. Ride from the Giant Cedar Breaks Amphitheater to Panguitch, then (if you wish) to the hotel near the entrance to Bryce Canyon.

Meet us in St. George, Utah (public shuttle is available from the Las Vegas airport.) Begin riding just north of there, in Dixie National Forest’s Cedar Breaks National Monument — a huge amphitheater of amazing red and orange sandstone sculptures carved by the wind and rain. Pedal down a long, gradual hillside, descending through the aspens and pines of Dixie National Forest to the flat farmland around the town of Panguitch. Cycle past the vivid sandstone formations of Red Canyon on a paved bike path leading to Bryce Canyon National Park, where you’ll spend the next two nights

Distance: 56 miles (mostly downhill – the 15 mi. / +1200 ft, Afternoon climb into Bryce is optional.
Elevation: +2148 ft / – 4942 ft.

Day 2: Ride from panoramic Rainbow Point in the morning and hike the Navajo / Queens Garden Loop in the afternoon.

This morning, choose between a delightful 17-mile downhill ride from stunning Rainbow Point – or a more challenging ride there-and-back. After lunch, go for a hike into Bryce Canyon. Cone-shaped hoodoos resembling wizards and gnomes guard the path; ravens call down to them from above and beyond every curve lies a jaw-dropping view.

Distance: 21 miles, Elevation: +926 ft / – 3272 ft.

Day 3: Watch the sun rise over Bryce’s Hoodoos. Ride into Zion and up the Zion Canyon scenic drive – no cars are allowed.

Start off with a sunrise hike to our favorite Bryce Canyon overlook. The statue-like hoodoos of the canyon appear to glow from within as the sun’s rays creep down the canyon walls. After breakfast, bicycle through ranch lands along the Sevier and Virgin Rivers into Zion National Park. Bicycling Magazine calls Zion “one of the world’s most beautiful places to ride.” Red cliffs tower beside the road as you descend the east side of the canyon; at the bottom, the six-mile cruise along the flat valley floor can take all afternoon as you stop to gaze up at the massive, multicolored heights. Zion doesn’t allow cars in this section of the park, making for an incredible bicycle ride. Spend the next three nights at the brand-new Springhill Suites.

Distance: 35 miles Elevation: +2038 ft / – 3966 ft. (NOTE: tunnel significantly skews these elevation gain/loss stats)

Day 4: Hike past “Walters Wiggles” and “Scouts Lookout” to join the magnificent West Rim Trail atop the canyon walls.

Today we head out the West Rim Trail to panoramic vista points above the canyon walls. Wind your way up “Walter’s Wiggles” to Scouts Rest, then continue past more wondrous views to a “checkerboard wall”, a shady wall and eventually, a desert spring. Folks with an extreme fear of heights may prefer a more leisurely stroll to a beautiful waterfall.
Prefer to ride? Choose between scenic and challenging cycling options inside Zion National Park and on its border (no van support). Since the Park Service runs frequent free shuttle buses from our inn, through town, to the visitor center, and through Zion’s valley floor, you can customize your experience.

Distance: 9.3 miles (or Less) Elevation: +2038 ft / – 3966 ft.

Day 5: Hike into the Narrows – a stunningly scenic slot canyon hailed as the “best hike in all the National Park system”

Conditions permitting, we offer a river walk into the Virgin River’s Narrows – a stunningly gorgeous slot canyon with walls towering more than 1,000 feet high. The river covers the narrow canyon’s base wall-to-wall in places, so you’ll be wading in and out of ankle-deep water as you hike through a rock-walled passageway less than 50 feet wide. We supply walking sticks and wading boots for this unusual and fun experience.

Distance: 5.1 mile maximum round-trip. This is a wet-hike over uneven terrain with little or no elevation gain.

Day 6: One last ride in Zion Canyon before we head downriver to Virgin for a celebratory lunch.

Ride the Canyon one last time before turning west along the Virgin River into open range land flanked by yet more fascinating geological features. The tour ends after lunch with a 45-minute shuttle back to St. George.

The hotels, inns, and B&Bs we use are always among the finest the area has to offer. Our smaller group sizes allow us to stay at some award-winning places that can’t handle groups of 25 or more. We work closely with the innkeepers to make sure they understand your needs and ours, whether that is having a place to store your bike, an early morning breakfast or a convenient place to park the van, they are as committed to your vacation experience as we are.
Lodging is based upon two people to a room with a private bath. If you’re traveling solo on any of our trips, we’ll assign you a roommate of the same gender and often of the same age bracket. There is no extra charge if we can’t find you a roommate, even if you sign up the day before the trip starts. You can guarantee yourself a private room and bath if you pay the Single Room Fee.

Deposit 25%
The deposit payment for a tour must be paid within two weeks after the booking is confirmed.
The remaining payment is due 90 days before the start of the tour.
For tours that are booked within 90 days before the start of the tour you will pay 100% of the tour price

Information

Meals and dining:
We know how important breakfast is to make sure your day starts off right. Most breakfasts are served at the inn where we spend the night and are either a set menu or a continental breakfast buffet. But if there is a local restaurant with a reputation for a great breakfast, we can guarantee we will find it and you will be treated to a nutritious meal to start the day.
Lunch is provided at a state park or similar scenic setting midway during the day’s ride. Guests are always surprised at the variety and quality of lunches we prepare. Besides sandwich fixings and cold drinks, we offer fresh fruits and vegetables and hot lunches such as tortellini with pesto or veggie burritos. If you prefer a certain item of food or drink, just let your tour guide know and we will be sure to prepare just the right lunch to keep your energy up for the rest of the day.
During the day water, fruit juices, soft drinks, energy bars, fruit, and snacks are available from the van. A cold beer from our cooler waits at the end of the day, and you can relive the day’s highlights at our wine and cheese party before dinner.
Dinner is eaten together at the best restaurant in the area. At most restaurants, you order what you want from the menu. Except for alcohol, everything is included, even appetizers, salad, soup, and dessert. If we have to shuttle everyone a short distance to get to that special place, we do it. We like to eat well.If you have any special dietary requests, please let us know in advance. We regularly accommodate vegetarians and other restricted diets. All of our meals are carefully selected to provide you with the unusually high nutritional and caloric needs of your body on an outdoor adventure.
