Day 1: Bike one of the ‘Top 10 Roads in the West’ – the stunning Aufderheide Scenic Byway.

Meet us in Eugene, Oregon. Ride the beautiful Aufderheide Scenic Byway beside the McKenzie, a Wild and Scenic River that weaves through the dense old-growth of the Willamette National Forest. A world-class road bike ride, the Adventure Cycling Association calls it “…one of the top 10 roads in the West, a mecca for road riders looking for ultra-smooth pavement, low traffic and scenic beauty.”

Day 2: Climb from old-growth fir forests to the alpine woods and lava fields of McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway.

Enjoy the outdoor mecca town of Bend for the next 2 nights. Cross the Cascade Range via McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway, a 3,700-foot climb spanning 22 miles. “The grades are pretty steady but not real hard,” says Chris Horner, professional cyclist from Bend, Oregon, describing his favorite local ride for Bicycling magazine. “It’s beautiful up at the top of McKenzie Pass — a snowcapped mountain view on one side and a lava field on the other.”
Lunch at the summit among 2,000-year-old jumbled lava flows. Ride a long sweeping descent through the lodgepole pines of Willamette National Forest into the Old West town of Sisters. Then it’s on to your two-night stay at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend, Oregon. Enjoy the soaking pool at McMenamins – and have fun exploring the town’s craft brewpubs.

Day 3: Go for a hike at Smith Rock in the morning. Explore Bend, Oregon’s “adventure capital,” in the afternoon.

After we go for a hike at the world-famous rock-climbing mecca at Smith Rock State Park in the morning, you have the afternoon to enjoy the Bend area on your own.
The hard part will be deciding what to choose! Bend offers a plethora of choices: world-class fly fishing on rivers like the Deschutes and Metolius, stellar hiking and mountain biking and river rafting.
In town, there are brewpubs, shops, art galleries and a lovely river walk to enjoy. Prefer to pedal?
We’ll show you some great road cycling options in the area. Spend another night at McMenamins Old St. Francis School and enjoy the soaking pool, on-site restaurants, bars, and movie theater.

Day 4: Ride Dutchman Flat and Crane Prairie, then ride into Crater Lake National Park.

Ride the Cascade Lakes Highway today. This gorgeous National Scenic Byway in the Deschutes National Forest wraps the foothills of Mt. Bachelor, curving from Dutchman Flat to lunch at Crane Prairie Reservoir. This breeding ground for osprey is also home to record-breaking rainbow trout. This afternoon, ride into Crater Lake National Park – an unforgettable cruise across a high meadow strewn with volcanic pumice from the blast of Mt. Mazama 8,000 years ago. Crest the rim for your first sight of stunning Crater Lake 1,500 feet below. As one of Oregon’s seven wonders, it’s nothing short of breathtaking! Spend the next two nights at Crater Lake Lodge, the lovingly restored National Park Lodge perched on the west rim. The views are fantastic.

Day 5: Ride Crater Lake’s spectacular rim – a glorious 33-mile route that tops Bicycling Magazine’s ‘Dream Rides’ list.

Crater Lake’s 33-mile bicycle ride is considered by Bicycling magazine to be one of the most spectacular one-day rides in the country. PureWow’s travel page calls it one of the ’11 Most Zen Places on the Planet.’ On one side, a rocky cliff leads down to the deepest lake in the United States; on the other, thrill to a 100-mile panoramic view from 7,000 feet of elevation: the Cascade Mountains, Eastern Oregon’s high desert, Cinnamon Butte, The Sisters. We guarantee this will be one of the top 5 bicycle rides of your life.

Day 6: Ride to Diamond Lake – truly a gem!

You’ve earned some relaxing downhill today! Cycle north beside hypnotizing waters of Crater Lake one last time before descending into the Umpqua National Forest. Cruise the shoreline of lovely Diamond Lake on a traffic-free paved bike path to the resort where we load up for our return to Eugene, stopping for lunch along the way.

The hotels, inns, and B&B’s we use are always among the finest the area has to offer. Our smaller group sizes allow us to stay at some award-winning places that can’t handle groups of 25 or more. We work closely with the innkeepers to make sure they understand your needs and ours, whether that is having a place to store your bike, an early morning breakfast or a convenient place to park the van, they are as committed to your vacation experience as we are.
Lodging is based upon two people to a room with a private bath. If you’re traveling solo on any of our trips, we’ll assign you a roommate of the same gender and often of the same age bracket. There is no extra charge if we can’t find you a roommate, even if you sign up the day before the trip starts. You can guarantee yourself a private room and bath if you pay the Single Room Fee. Occasionally a room with two beds consists of one bed plus a roll away bed or sofa bed.

The deposit payment for a tour must be paid within two weeks after the booking is confirmed.
The remaining payment is due 90 days before the start of the tour.
For tours that are booked within 90 days before the start of the tour you will pay 100% of the tour price

Information

Meals and dining:

We know how important breakfast is to make sure your day starts off right. Most breakfasts are served at the inn where we spend the night and are either a set menu or a continental breakfast buffet. But if there is a local restaurant with a reputation for a great breakfast, we can guarantee we will find it and you will be treated to a nutritious meal to start the day.
Lunch is provided at a state park or similar scenic setting midway during the day’s ride. Guests are always surprised at the variety and quality of lunches we prepare. Besides sandwich fixings and cold drinks, we offer fresh fruits and vegetables and hot lunches such as tortellini with pesto or veggie burritos. If you prefer a certain item of food or drink, just let your tour guide know and we will be sure to prepare just the right lunch to keep your energy up for the rest of the day.
During the day water, fruit juices, soft drinks, energy bars, fruit, and snacks are available from the van. A cold beer from our cooler waits at the end of the day, and you can relive the day’s highlights at our wine and cheese party before dinner.
Dinner is eaten together at the best restaurant in the area. At most restaurants, you order what you want from the menu. Except for alcohol, everything is included, even appetizers, salad, soup, and dessert. If we have to shuttle everyone a short distance to get to that special place, we do it. We like to eat well.

If you have any special dietary requests, please let us know in advance. We regularly accommodate vegetarians and other restricted diets. All of our meals are carefully selected to provide you with the unusually high nutritional and caloric needs of your body on an outdoor adventure.
