The smallest state of the U.S. is 78 km long and 60 km wide and is not an island. The deep the Narragansett Bay splits the state virtually in half. The eastern edge of the Appalachian Mountains forms the far north of the state. The coast has beautiful sandy beaches. . There is a relatively large area of unexplored land because the soil is less suitable for agriculture.

Rhode Island has a pleasant climate with warm summers and not too cold winters. In the north summers are warmer, influenced by the continental winds.
